Background:	BGLU22 is a Glycosyl hydrolase superfamily protein. In Arabidopsis, three β -glucosidases (AT1G66270-BGLU21, AT1G66280-BGLU22, AT3G09260-BGLU23), which belong to thesubfamily 3 of GH family 1, are known to be root-specificenzymes, and they all share an endoplasmic reticulum (ER)retention signal at their C-terminus. Malboobi and Lefebvre (1997) showed the induction of BGLU21 inresponse to phosphate starvation.
